Dictionary notes
[1] BasEnglish
BasEnglish is a tiny wordlist created in the 1930s for language learners.
I got it on the web long ago and can no longer find it. I include it to
have a sample dictionary that takes up very little room when included with
default downloads, but most folks find the robot too easy to beat when
using this dictionary.
[2]CollegeEng
This was a list provided with Niggle, the old freeware Palm
game that was purchased and rebranded as "Official Scrabble" by
Handmark. I like this list because it gives the robot a vocabularly
closer to mine and so me a chance to win occasionally.
[3]SOWPODS
SOWPODS is a wordlist used in Scrabble™ tournaments,
particularly outside the US. These dictionaries were built using the
BYOD
site by a Crosswords user who has access to the real list.
[4]ODS5
ODS5 is, or so French users have told me, the preferred list for Scrabble™ play in French
after 1 Jan. 2008.
You can get it here,
as I did.
[5]ITALIANO
For the Italian dictionaries I simply googled for an appropriate-looking list. The one
I found is "copyleft"ed, and bears the contact information of its creator:
Luigi M. Bianchi Internet:
York University, Atkinson College lbianchi@sol.yorku.ca
4700 Keele Street bianchi@nexus.yorku.ca
North York, Ontario
M3J 1P3 Canada Telefono: 416 736-5213
Telefax: 416 736-5103
If you know of a better publicly-available wordlist for Crosswords in Italian,
please let me know.
[6]Dutch
These dictionaries come from a list called "Dutch__unofficial_alphabetical" sent by a Crosswords user.
[7]OWL2
These dictionaries come from list that is equivalent to the OWL2 tournament list introduced for March 1, 2006 sent by a Crosswords user.
[8]PortugueseBR
File produced for the BrOffice Group (www.broffice.org), adapted for Erivelton Muniz.
[9]PortuguesePT
From a wordlist being compiled by the Language and Document Processing group
at Minho University.
[10]CSW
From a user-submitted wordlist said to be equivalent to "Collins Scrabble
Wordlist".
[11]CSW
This list comes from the official site
of the Czech scrabble asociation. The list itself is here. . This is a free list named Blex-Klasik, contains 2-5 letters words which are officially allowed in czech scrabble.
